Biography

Gunnery Sergeant Chayna M. La Rose was born and raised in Hayward, California. She enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2008 and attended recruit training in Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. In February 2009 she reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Johnson, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. She was then transferred to Munitions and Electronics Maintenance School, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama where she earned the MOS of 2311. On March 2009 she was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class.

 

In April 2009 upon completion of school, Private First Class La Rose reported for duty to 2nd Supply Battalion, Ammunition Company, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. She was assigned to the issues section where she worked as an Issues Technician. She was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal November 2009 and assigned to the records section as a Records Clerk. In December 2010 Lance Corporal La Rose completed Combat Lifesaver Course in preparation to deploy to Helmand Provence, Afghanistan. In March 2010 she took part in a Unit Deployment with 2nd Maintenance Battalion Reinforced in support of Operations Enduring Freedom as the Records Chief. She was promoted to the rank of Corporal April 2011. She returned from this deployment in September 2011 and re-assigned as the Records Chief. In May 2012 Corporal La Rose attend the Martial Arts Instructor Course graduating as a 1st Degree Black Belt Instructor. In January 2013 Corporal La Rose took part in a Unit Deployment with 2nd Marine Logistics Group Forward in support of Operations Enduring Freedom as the Records Chief. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant April 2013. She returned from this deployment in June 2013 and re-assigned as the Operations Platoon Sergeant.

 

In January 2015 Sergeant La Rose received orders to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan as the Ammunition Chief and as a Commanding General Readiness Inspector. In March 2015 Sergeant La Rose completed the following Service Schools; Civil Military Operations Planner, Information Operations Fundamental, and Joint Logistics Course.

 

In November 2015 Sergeant La Rose received orders to the Marine Corps Center of Excellence, Martial Arts Instructor Trainer Course, Quantico, Virginia with class 3-15. Graduating as a 2nd Degree Black Belt Instructor Trainer with the Dunham/ Wetherbee “Heart” Award and becoming certified as a Combat Conditioning Specialist.

 

In January 2016, Sergeant La Rose reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor Duty with class 2-16. April 2016 Sergeant La Rose checked into Forth Recruit Training Battalion and was assigned to Oscar Company. She successfully completed four cycles as a green belt Drill Instructor and one as a Senior Drill Instructor. April 2017 she was promoted to Staff Sergeant. 

 

In July 2019, Staff Sergeant La Rose reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion Parris Island, South Carolina as the Staff Non Commission Officer In Charge of the Ammunition Supply Point.

 

In January 2020, Staff Sergeant La Rose reported to the Marine Information Group G4 as the Ammunition Chief. March 2021 she was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

 

Gunnery Sergeant La Rose reported to 2d Supply Battalion October 2022 where she serves as the Records Staff Non Commission Officer in Charge and the Operations Platoon Sergeant.

 

Gunnery Sergeant La Rose’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold star in lieu of third award, Good Conduct Medal in lieu of forth award, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
