Biography

Lieutenant Michael J. Krane is a native of West Lafayette, Indiana. He earned a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Purdue University and was commissioned through the Purdue NROTC program.

Following commissioning, LT Krane attended Naval Nuclear Power Training Command and Nuclear Power Training Unit in Goose Creek, SC. He then completed Submarine Officer Basic Course in Groton, CT before reporting to USS North Dakota (SSN-784) in Groton, CT. While onboard, LT Krane served as the Main Propulsion Assistant, Tactical Systems Officer, and Damage Control Assistant. While on USS North Dakota, he completed a deployment to the European theater and a change of home port to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME, for the beginning of an extended maintenance overhaul.

LT Krane currently serves as an Instructor of Naval Science at the University of Kansas. In addition to instructor duties, LT Krane manages all aspects of the commander's nuclear accessions and serves as the command Security Manager.

His personal awards inclue the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) along with various other unit and personal awards.
